Title: Synchrotron radiation technology applications in atomically precise metal nanoclusters determination and their corresponding catalytic investigations
Abstract:
Organic ligand covalently functionalized metal nanoclusters with atomically precise has emerged as novel nanomaterial and gained much attention since they are in the range of sub-nano cluster which bridge the gap between discrete atoms and traditional metal nanoparticle[1]. However, their atomically precise total structure determination is still a great challenge. On one hand, the idea size of single crystals for laboratory-based X-ray diffraction >20um are required while it is a knotty task for these metal nanoclusters. On the other hand, due to the limitation of X-ray wavelength and the detector power, the overlap at low angle forming diffraction ring and the weak diffraction at high angle would leading to failure of cell parameter determination and the corresponding indexing data reduction process. Thus, it is the key step to develop a reliable method for atomically precise total structure determination of metal nanoclusters. The Synchrotron Radiation diffraction is an indispensable technology regarding this issue. Employ this technology we have determinated a serials of gold nanoclusters[1-3] including: (1) Diphosphine induced chiral propeller-arrangement of [Au13(dppe)5Cl2]Cl3 nanoclusters and its singlet oxygen photogeneration. (2) Conjugated Electron Delocalization Mediated Au25(SPh)5(PPh3)10X2nanoclusters and its catalytic activity in the glucose oxidation. For nanomaterials that are unsuitable to grow single crystals for single crystal diffraction, through high resolution powder XRD measurement, ab initio powder structure determination technology is successfully applied to obtain atomically precise total structure of Zr-MOF [Zr6O4(OH)4(fuma-COO)8(HCOO)4], COF TFB-CHEDA and pharmaceutical molecules cimetidine.
